Argentina New President Javier Milei
Big news is coming out of South America with the newly elected libertarian president, Javier Milei.
However, that terminology means very different things in Argentina, being closer to fascism and the right than to libertarianism. What they have in common with the left in Argentina is that they love to print money.
The definition of libertarianism is as follows: Libertarianism is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as a core value.
Libertarians seek to maximise autonomy and political freedom, emphasising equality before the law and civil rights to freedom of association, freedom of speech, freedom of thought and freedom of choice.
As for the definition of fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralised autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition and a tendency toward or actual exercise of dictatorial solid control
Since Milei won’t have enough parliamentary support from the Peronists, we should expect some unconventional tactics to bypass Congress. Milei also has a strained relationship with several BRICS countries — with China and Brazil topping that list — so hopefully, they have some excellent translators.
Due to Javier Milei’s hatred of anything related to China and Argentina, the alliance blocks were made between the growing new Cold War and the great power rivalry between the United States of America and its rival, the Chinese Communist Party.
What is great power theory? It is where the Great powers seek to maximise their share of the world’s wealth because economic strength is the foundation of military strength. Great powers seek to prevent rival powers from dominating wealth-producing regions of the world.
The quick and dirty here is that Argentina will be the centre of lots of drama for the foreseeable future. So you may want to hold off on your investments in this region and grab some popcorn while at it.
