Could The UK Experience the Rise of a New Muslim Political Party

Muslims are not seen as separate but as a united entity within Muslim culture and the overarching religious tradition.

An attack on one Muslim is an attack on all Muslims; this partly explains the support by British Muslims for the Palestinians in Israel.

The Gaza conflict, which has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, has led to Muslims within the United Kingdom supporting independent Muslim candidates rather than mainstream UK political parties, who are the Labour Party, the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats, respectively.

Currently, in the 2024 July 4 general election, independent Muslim MPs were elected in predominantly Muslim areas due to running on a campaign which supports the interests of Muslims and also supports the Palestinians.

British Muslims

Currently, in the United Kingdom has 6.5% of its population, which is Muslim, and of those Muslim voters, 3.9 million are Muslims.

To put this into perspective, the Liberal Democrats in the 2024 parliamentary elections won 72 seats in the UK Parliament with only 1.5 million votes.

The Liberal Democrats won so many seats because the United Kingdom does not have a proportional system where members of Parliament are divided in equal shares to the proportional votes.
