Do you think it could also be due to the old philosophers had to have practical jobs and experience

Edward Gibbon was a member of parliament twice and lot of the philosophers have to make incomes doing proper jobs

Adam Smith spent I think a decade in France working as a tutor to a duke children

It the difference between practical knowledge and technical knowledge

They may be much more effective writers if they had more professional experience supplement the academic experience

You can get that as well with people who go from High school, college and finally university and than go into teaching

They don't have enough experience outside of school which means the only socialize and spend two much time around children and young people

It warps their understanding of the world
