With Russia’s direct invasion of the sovereign and independent state of Ukraine in its two invasions, the first in 2014 and then Russia’s second invasion in 2022, many people’s minds on whether or not the United States will become entangled directly in a grand conflict.
This fear is heightened by the Chinese sabre rattling in the Indo-Pacific region, with the Communist Party of China wishing to bring the Republic of Taiwan into its control and integrate into China.
These two states have been hostile since the end of the Chinese Civil War, which lasted from 1927 to 1949.
The Communists were victorious, and the Nationalists fled the island of Taiwan.
Since the 1970s and 1980s, the United States has pursued a policy of strategic grey zones and convoluted policy to avoid becoming directly entangled in a conflict between China and Taiwan.
However, in reality, the United States is still an unofficial guarantor of Taiwanese independence, but in such a way that the Americans could leave the Taiwanese to the wolves.
However, it’s also got to be stated that Taiwan is close to Japan, and if the Americans are involved, the Japanese could intervene and, in turn, drive the United States into war with them due to American alliances with Japan.
