Finland and The Ukraine War

Finnish politics do not often make the headlines due to the Russians piling pressure on Finland since the nation joined NATO on April 4, 2023, alongside its neighbour Sweden, with both nations applying to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or NATO for short on May 18 2022

The reason Finland has joined NATO and other Western nations in their opposition to the Russian Federation is due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Russians, according to a report by the Telegraph, more than 1,000 people have arrived in Finland over its eastern border with Russia in recent months.

It is feared that the Russians are using migrants from the Far East to infiltrate the nation of Finland in an attempt to destabilise the country.

Due to the increase of Russian aggression, first against Ukrainians and then other NATO members with sizeable Russian populations, particularly Latvia, with 24.2% ethnically Russians, Estonia with 23.6% Russian population and finally, Lithuania, with just 5% of its population identifying as Russian.

Finland’s population of people identifying as Russian is 1.7%, and now there are debates regarding human rights throughout the European Union, including Finland looking into the status of Russian people within their nations and what it should be.

Should the Russians in Europe be forced to give up their citizenship, remove their Russian citizenship or only have the citizenship of the state they are currently…
