Geopolitics of Wine: Why France Is the Wine King

Regarding wine’s geopolitics, there are two groups of wines and how they are made.

In the world of wine, vineyards are divided by whether they are irrigated or not.

Irrigated growth is relatively new in the wine world, so Old World vineyards have to compete in new ways, mainly by moving up the value chain, which Europe has lots of experience with, such as using oak with the wines to increase its value.

Also, as Europe’s population decreases and ages, it must compete by adding value to its products and the legacy of its wine-producing nations, like France, the wine king of Europe is Key.

Control over France’s wine trade was one of many causes of the hundred-year war from 1337 AD to 1453 AD, so the topic of wine is a very serious business.

The declining and ageing demographics will start to disrupt the wine industry.

As people age, they will take money from the economic system, not add to it, because getting old is expensive.

Health spending per person steeply increases after age 50, with people aged 85 and over costing the NHS an average of £7,000 a year.

According to the UK Treasury analysis, spending on health services across all age groups is £2,069.
