I would add that their is strong new money elements to the issue

If somebody is from an affluent background our middle-class family they will look for a wife or a girlfriend

Who is social accepted by their hierarchy and who is somebody who would be a good partner

For somebody from a working class background who becomes welfare they don't have the social pressures

To have a wife or girlfriend of equal status for me I am from a working class background like the rest of my family

And I don't have the social pressure to have somebody from higher social and economic background

As for the term value it is partly due to the rise of consumer culture making relationships commodities

As what people consider valuable that can vary individual to individual but young people tend to be stereotypes of what it means to be a man or a woman

It's when they get older they start to change
