I would say it's different competing national interests it's not necessarily personal

China could very well dominate East Asia the same way the United States dominates North America

It's not in the USA and other small regional powers interests for that to happen

But that what may happen and the next few decades would be how to manage the rise of China in the Far East

At least according to Tim Marshall author of prisoners of geography
