I don't see the British or German's happy with French growing influence and keep in mind Germany has fought two world wars against France in the last century

And Franch and English have been hostile against each other since the Norman conquest in 1066 until the ending of world War II in 1945

Furthermore Charles de gaull blocked the United Kingdoms entry into the European economic community in the 1960s and 70s

Their is no love lost between those two nations

According to the geopolitical analyst Peter Zilhen it would take the British 20 years to rebuild its navy

So France and other continental Nations can do things with the British being able to do anything

If you want to be a serious great power you've got to have the financial institutions and military resources

In order to be a true great power which is able to influence events abroad
