Is Slovakia Prepared for War
Slovakia, a nation of over 5.7 million, is on the brink of an existential crisis.
Its eastern border with Ukraine is emerging as a potential flashpoint that demands immediate attention.
Currently, over 1.8 million refugees are fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
Escaping into Slovakia is also an increased danger that the war itself will bleed over into NATO nations.
The Nation-state of Slovakia has a small population, and its military is tiny and insufficient to protect that state.
Slovakia’s current military includes 19,500, of which 4208 are civilians in various contract roles.
In this critical situation, Slovakia is turning to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and its influential members, particularly the United States, for crucial support and security.
The United States currently has 300 American soldiers based in Slovakia. Of these 300, 100 military individuals run Slovakia’s United States Patriot missile system.
The Patriot missile system is a piece of anti-missile technology which is used to protect Slovakian airspace from potential rogue missiles going into Slovakia from the war in Ukraine, as well as any potential rockets from the Russian Federation.
