Also France is an continental power first and is also a Mediterranean and Atlantic power

Which meant England as an island nation had a quantitative and qualitative advantage against the French at sea

I do believe the navy was around 50,000 and 60,000 strong by the Napoleonic Wars it got past 100,000 men

Which was tiny comparison to the land battles of the Napoleon and revolutionary Wars.

Also Louis XIV and a successor as King Louis 15th were interested in gaining continental Holdings not in the colonies

I would say that the French by supporting the American War of independence robbed Great Britain of its future

William Pitt the elder stated to Parliament that should England lose the Americas than every Lord should sell his property in England and move to North America he was spot on in regard to that comment.
