Lebanon Death Toll and Refugee Crisis
The state of Israel and Lebanon have been edging towards a general conflict since the October 7 attack on the state of Israel by the terrorist organisation Hamas, which is based in Gaza in 2023, which was quickly followed by attacks conducted by the terrorist group Hezbollah based in southern Lebanon.
According to reporting conducted by The Hill, due to terrorist attacks and missiles conducted by the terrorist organisation Hezbollah, over 70,000 Israeli citizens fled northern Israel. Furthermore, since October 7, Hezbollah has fired over 8000 rockets and missiles at Israel.
The conflict that Israel is waging against terrorist organisations within the Middle East is part of a broader long-term conflict being waged with Israel against the forces of Iran since the 1980s when the Islamic fundamentalists came to power in Iran in 1979 due to the Iranian revolution.
Since that period, the states of Israel and the Iranians have been in a state of conflict but not open warfare, with both states conducting assassinations and the Iranians conducting a shadow war against Israel through its proxies in the form of terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis based in Yemon.
