My Definition of The Patriarchy
In this article, I shall give my definition of the patriarchy.
It’s crucial to acknowledge that our definitions of the patriarchy may vary, shaped by our unique interpretations of the term ‘patriarch’ in today’s context.
This understanding allows us to appreciate diverse perspectives and fosters a more enlightened and open-minded discourse.
When I talk about patriarchs, I talk about it through a different lens than feminism.
It’s essential to recognise that within feminism, certain factions are overrepresented, while others, such as mothers and working-class women, often go unheard.
We can foster a more empathetic and inclusive society by amplifying these voices.
Regarding politics, the most heard people tend to be the most powerful and influential people who dictate policy and influence culture.
Those people tend to be from the wealthiest of society; hence, people in low-income brackets are not being represented.
As for the patriarch, its definition translates as the father’s rule or a society governed by the elders.
As for the definition given to the patriarch by feminism, the patriarchy, according to feminism, is a society that has been constructed for men, by men and for the benefit of men at the expense of women, and that women in a patriarchal system are suppressed.
