Nigeria, Without the Security of Globalisation
In today’s article, I will be focusing on the future of Nigeria in a world that is no longer globalised and a world where the USA is no longer interested in geopolitical and global security interests, which had led to human flourishing over the past 80 years for people’s part of the Global system created by the USA.
This is ominous, with Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for President of the USA, stating he would “encourage” Russia to attack any of the US’s Nato allies whom he considers to have not met their financial obligations and that he may quit NATO altogether.
Now let’s focus more on Nigeria, which is a country forged from colonialism that is comprised of diverse ethnic groups coexisting under a single political entity called Nigeria.
Unlike the norm outside of the African continent, the Nation-state in Nigeria is not dominated by one ethnic group and its culture.
For Nigeria, it has at least 250 different ethnic groups, according to the University of Birmingham, with the most populous and politically influential being Hausa-Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo (Ibo) 18%, Ijaw 10%, Kanuri 4%, Ibibio 3.5%, Tiv 2.5%. It also has over 500 languages, with English being the official language.
