Nothing Wrong With 9 to 5 Job
What is constantly bombarding people on social media and YouTube is that having a job is for losers and people who don’t have ambition or imagination, that the only loser has a job as a worker and that your bosses and higher management are laughing at you.
I am afraid that attitude is utterly nonsense.
If you know anybody working in the service sector economy, they would love to be able to work Monday to Friday five days a week without sacrificing the weekend due to work.
With the decline of the regulator shift patterns, couples don’t get to spend time working on their relationship with loved ones or their family, and if they have children, they spend quality time getting to know their sons or daughters.
Email and Text
Modern technology makes us all feel like we cannot unplug from work or work-like activities, especially with social media and LinkedIn, which can be used as a way to promote yourself and the services and skills you can provide to employers or people that you wish to sell your products and services to.
In a social media age, the way we are perceived online has never been more critical, and why people always feel pressure at work can be a crucial reason why people still answer emails from work at 1 a.m. when they should enjoy time with friends or family.
In a digitised world and a world that requires constant education to stay competitive, there can be times when there is no such thing as a 9-to-5 job any more.
But they do exist.
The key is to understand the boundaries and company culture because, like I have experienced and many others, some places don’t allow their workers to have coffee breaks or demand culturally that people work and extra power without being paid.
9-to-5 Job Can Help You Grow
Working a regular job from Monday to Friday provides an excellent opportunity as it means you will know how much you will be paid weekly and monthly and how many hours and travel time you’ll spend getting to and from work.
If you work at an excellent company that provides great training and truly invests in professional development, that can be a perfect opportunity to progress within the company or switch companies if you are not paid your worth.
You should change your job every 2 to 3 years because you have most likely been underpaid and underappreciated.
Most companies try to pay you under your actual value because it’s cheaper.
Alternatively, suppose you’re in a crappy job with a few prospects.
But it’s a great opportunity because you have money security with a 9 to 5 job.
In that case, depending on other commitments, you can spend three hours each evening doing educational courses and retraining yourself for a new career.
Or you can work on a side hustle, for example, Copywriting, YouTube, social media or other options.
YouGov Survey
A new YouGov survey with Teneo Blue Rubicon and McDonald’s reveals that almost six in ten (58%) UK workers would choose to start work earlier than 9 a.m. if they could leave earlier than 5 p.m.
The survey, conducted among over 1,800 UK workers, shows that just 6% of UK workers work a ‘normal’ 9–5 day.
Almost four in ten (37%) in the UK who work full time say they would most like to work between 8 am and 4 pm. Working from 7 am to 3 pm is preferential to working 9 am to 5 pm (21% vs 16% respectively), but working 10 am to 6 pm is favoured by 11% of those working full-time jobs.
Over nine in ten are not working the usual 9–5 jobs.
