Respect When it Comes to Relationships
When it comes to words and their meaning, they will mean different things to different people due to individual life experiences and the association between those experiences and good and bad things in an individual’s life.
I will give an example of my experience with a manager at work. To protect their identity, I will keep the name of the company I am with or have been with a secret.
Within my family, we like food, and my father was the household’s cook.
I was relating that experience to my team leader, and I stated my father is a bit of a force feeder. I meant it within the context I understood personally because my father likes to cook food and give food to his family.
From the manager’s point of view, his father used to force-feed him, and because of that experience, he has a bad relationship with his father and the food.
That’s why word associations with good and bad things can mean different things to different people.
For instance, a woman may feel attracted to a physically intimidating and confident man because she has had a positive experience with that word and its association with a man. This can be due to positive male role models in her young life or positive experiences with men.
