Russia and China Coordinated Attack on Finland
The People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation are launching coordinated operations, or more accurately, covert operations, against the state of Finland, which joined NATO on April 4, 2023.
Previously, the state of Finland remained neutral in all conflicts since the end of the Soviet-Finnish war or the Winter War of 1939 to 1940.
Finland lost the war and had to give up its eastern lands, which offered greater protection and natural defensive barriers to the Soviet Union part of the peace treaty.
Its aftermath was that Finland would remain neutral regarding any conflicts as Russia was fighting against the Western alliance led by the United States of America.
With the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Finland has ended their neutrality and has joined firmly with other Allied and Western democratic nations by joining NATO this year.
The Finnish troops proved to be an asset during recent NATO wargames, where they defeated all other nations participating in the combat exercise, highlighting the Finnish military’s effectiveness and preparedness.
Russia is now funnelling waves of migrants into Finland and its border territories. Russia is trying to recruit foreign migrants detained in a recent sweep at its border with Finland for its war in Ukraine.
The BBC has seen evidence of several cases in which foreigners were rushed into a military camp on the border with Ukraine days after they were picked up for breaching immigration laws.
The Chinese-owned containership Newnew Polar Bear has allowed its anchor to damage the Internet and other communication cables, which is affecting Finland and Estonia following this incident formally investigating a Chinese vessel that drug its anchor over 100 nautical miles through the Gulf of Finland, hitting telecom and gas lines.
These are possibly deliberate actions, but what do they signify? In all likelihood, these indicate potential cooperation between Russia and China in different global theatres — challenging the ability of the US to focus on multiple fronts.
The United States of America has a low attention span concerning multiple conflicts due to the nature of its presidential system, which is top-heavy concerning its function.
Currently having to deal with the Israeli and Hamas conflict since 7 October 2023, the growing tensions in the Taiwan Straits with China wanting to reclaim the island of Taiwan, which has been viewed as a breakaway province since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949 and the communist seizing power in mainland China.
Furthermore, the Russian Federation aggression by invading Ukraine directly in February 2022 with overactions threatening the security of other NATO member states.
