Russian Victory at Avdiivka
The battle of Avdiivka has been a long-term struggle between Ukrainians and the Russian Federation over control of the city.
It has continued from 24 February 2022 until its conclusion with a Russian victory on 17 February 2024.
This victory by the Russians doesn’t mean the end of the war for the Ukrainians because they have successfully managed to fortify surrounding settlements on the way to the city of Kyiv, which means the Russians will pay a high price for advancing deep into Ukraine.
To give some perspective, 47,000 Russians were estimated to have been killed or wounded in the battle of Avdiivka, which is higher than the original population of the city of Avdiivka, which was around 32,000 during the war.
The population fled, leaving behind approximately 1600 civilians within the city.
Also, according to reporting by The New York Times, the Russian Federation, 16,000 casualties cannot be replaced, as well as 300 armoured vehicles which have been assaulting Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka.
Furthermore, the people reading this, please be aware that it is tough to get accurate casualty numbers suffered by the Russian Federation and even more losses being taken by the Ukrainian military, which, according to some reports of fatalities, range from 30,000 to 70,000 troops.
The reason for this is that the Western media wishes to portray an image of the Ukrainians doing predominantly well during the war.
