Shifting Alliances in the Middle East
The current ruling 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, stated during the USA’s recent presidential address on Thursday, 7 March 2024, that the USA will supply humanitarian aid to the people suffering in Gaza.
Since the terrorist group Hamas attacked the state of Israel on 7 October 2023, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip has been in a state of war with the world’s only Jewish state, Israel.
This conflict has led to a humanitarian disaster being experienced by the Palestinian people who live within the small territory controlled by Hamas.
Currently, over 29,000 Palestinians have been confirmed to be killed since the start of the Hamas-Israel war.
However, more broadly, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been ongoing for more than seven decades since Israel was first created in 1948.
Today, there are nearly 7 million Palestinian refugees around the world.
In response to the growing crisis in Gaza, Joe Biden said the pier would be able to “receive large shipments carrying food, water, medicine and temporary shelter.”
According to Biden, the construction will allow “a massive increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance getting into Gaza every day.”
