The Breaking of the Russian War Machine
For today’s article, I will be discussing the breaking of the Russian war machine and the catastrophic losses experienced since the start of the direct Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Ukrainian and Russian conflict has been ongoing for over ten years, starting in 2014 when the Russian Federation seized control of parts of eastern Ukraine and the Crimea Peninsula in that year.
Getting data on what is happening with the Russian and Ukrainian military is hard to come by, for it is estimated that the Russian Federation has lost between 550,000 to 750,000 soldiers in Ukraine and that the original Russian army which invaded Ukraine in 2022 is now gone.
The Russian military is now relying upon conscription, with the average conscription rate of between 15,000 and 45,000 people drafted into the Russian army fighting Ukraine per month.
The Russians still have deep reserves of human resources, and the losses they are experiencing are very similar to the 5 to 1 and 6 to 1 losses experienced in fighting Nazi Germany during World War II.
This conflict with Ukraine is no different in that the Russians are willing to expend lives to defeat Ukrainians using quantity, which is a quality all of its own.
