The canal itself needs expanding and there's also the issue of water being able to fill the canal somebody to do with a drought
If it's not resolved it will weak and the United States because rather than having one navy that can be deployed to the Atlantic and the Pacific
It will turn into two navies in a similar way but on a much bigger scale to France being an Atlantic and mediterranean power
It's why the British kept on defeating the French as sea because it could concentrate it's Sea power
For the USA with out the Panama canal it would have to send ships around the bottom of South America
It will also dramatically increase the costs of international shipping which will increase insulation
With the coasts being passed on to the consumers
With geography starting to become relevant again Nations will need to redevelop their geopolitical analysts because the discipline has been irrelevant for nearly 80 years
For the UK you could be talking at least 20 years to rebuild its fleet capacity that's not taking into the generational knowledge
That has been lost due to downsizing of the navy because in a globalised system backed by American security i.e its Fleet
The UK and others would inturn need a strong fleet
