The thing with English history is that the English nobility or I should say the English Norman nobility were highly independent

It's why the kings of England had such issue governing the country

Even Edward I and Edward III had their lord's challenging them even at the height of their power

If you compare and contrast the Kingdoms of England and the kingdoms of France England was often politically dysfunctional

And the french where a lot more bloody in that regards but they where richer and much quicker to recover
