The USA and Bombing the Middle East

Three American soldiers based in a military base on the border between Jordan and Syria were killed by an Irani Iranian-backed militia which used a drone attack against the American base, which took place on 28 January 2024.

The American military and public don’t have the willingness actually to solve the issues in the Middle East, so the US is likely just going to apply a sticking plaster to the problem in a similar way as the Houthis keep attacking international shipping in the Red Sea every couple of years.

For the USA and other powers, they fix the issue temporarily by bombing the problem, which goes away for a few years.

Then the issue comes back; the response is to keep bombing the Middle East.

To give some perspective, the Houthis, who are another Iranian-backed terrorist organisation based in Yemen, attacked international shipping back in 2015 and started attacking international shipping again on 19 November 2023.

In both cases, the United States responded by bombing targets in the Middle East to remove the threat temporarily, but the issue keeps existing.

The United States experienced several failed attempts at nation-building, first in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021 and then the deteriorating impact of the geopolitical security of the Middle East…
