The novel depicts the rise and fall of empires, and it’s historical fiction.

Luo Guanzhong’s book shows the decline of the Han Empire, which ruled China from 206 BC to 220 A.D.

The dynasty was divided between Western and Eastern Han, with the book focusing on the later Eastern Han period.
