Toxic Mental Health Therapy and its Proliferation in Our Culture

The primary factor behind today’s article is the mental health crap adverts that keep getting bombarded on my social media and particularly my YouTube feed trying to get me to buy and consume online mental health services.

If you are somebody who uses social media platforms and online platforms, you may have seen young women and young men trying to sell mental health products and encourage you to get yourself a therapist.

There is one advert, in particular, showing a young woman, most likely in her mid-20s or early 20s, stating she has been in therapy due to her parents since the age of six years.

This is a tragedy and a gross misuse of therapy.

Mental health mental health therapy should not be stigmatised, but it’s got to be stated that mental health therapy is meant to work towards curing a patient or having that person in a state where they no longer have to spend their money on therapists.

Therapy is meant to fix problems, not to become an emotional crutch for young people who don’t have the social skills to build meaningful relationships because their parents and society didn’t put enough care into the development of their children.
