Ukraine War: Russian Soldiers Killing Ukrainian Prisoners of War
According to reporting conducted by the Centre for European Policy Analysis and the BBC, the Russian Federation, in 2024, 80% of their Ukrainian prisoners have been executed since the start of the second invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
(Here is my behind the paywall link.)
According to Ukrainian authorities, 147 Ukrainians have been executed by the Russian Federation, that is, Ukrainian soldiers and combatants.
Of those, 127 have been executed this year.
Reasons why the Russians started to execute Ukrainian prisoners of war due to the war becoming a slugging match and the high casualty rates of the Russians on the battlefields of Ukraine.
According to reporting by the New York Times, over 600,000 Russians have been killed since the start of the war in February 2022. This means that the soldiers fighting in Ukraine are new and have been quickly trained to fight.
They are not professional soldiers and will not conduct themselves in a professional manner.
These are conscription soldiers, with some not wanting to be there.
However, it’s essential to add that, given the war, information on the Russian side is hard to come by due to Google algorithms and my being a purely English speaker.
Depending on the sources, between 63 and 70% of Russians support Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, though getting criticism about the regime within Russia is hard to come by, and it’s hard to know if people who are speaking to think tanks are also speaking freely as well as giving correct information to Polistes.
