Ukraine War: The Battle of Avdiivka
One of the most brutal battles of the Ukraine War that has been ongoing since 24 February 2022 is the battle of Avdiivka. Now, let’s deeply dive into the strategic importance of both sides for whoever emerges victorious from the carnage.
Fighting for Avdiivka has been ongoing for one year and ten months as of the writing of this article in terms of the current round of combat, which has recurrently been happening for four months, heavy fighting for control of the region.
Avdiivka is located in southeastern Ukraine and offers access to vital Ukrainian logistical hubs, so both sides are intent on having control.
The Russians have sent waves of troops, tanks, and everything else they have into the meatgrinder of Avdiivka, suffering some 40,0000 battle casualties — a ratio of around 5 to 1 compared to the Ukrainian defenders.
This information is collected by the geopolitical analyst and author Peter Zilhen, who analysed the conflict for its long-term geopolitical implications not just for the region but for the rest of the world, such as maths farming due to disruption of supply chains.
Also, according to reporting conducted by REUTERS, the plant, which Moscow says is being used by Ukrainian forces as a base and weapons storage facility, is now the primary focus of Russian attacks.
