Ukrainian military successfully destroyed a Russian submarine, which cost $300 million to build with missiles, according to reporting conducted by the BBC, a British-owned newsagency.

The submarine that was destroyed, Rostov-on-Don, was launched by the Russian Federation in 2014.

The vessel itself was destroyed at the Russian port of Sevastopol on Friday, 3 August 2024.

The submarine that was destroyed was one of four Russian submarines active in the Black Sea.

In 2023, Russia had 70 submarines, so staying grounded regarding Russia’s strength at sea is essential.

Russian Submarine

From February 2022 to August 2024, Ukraine destroyed 15 Russian warships.

With the destruction of the submarine, it is a loss of another significant Russian asset in the region.

These submarines were primarily firing Kalibr cruise missiles into Ukraine.

The significance of the destruction being wrecked on the Black Sea fleet and in Russian positions within the Crimea peninsula and attacks happening as deep as Nizhnekamsk, which is a city in Tatarstan which officially makes 75% of the Russian population vulnerable to drone attacks from Ukraine.

Also, the Creame peninsula is becoming increasingly vulnerable to the possibility of Ukrainian advance on the peninsula due to the Ukrainians successfully destroying the Russian S-400 hundred air defence system as well.

According to Peter Zilhen’s analysis, as the Ukrainians develop a strong drone fleet and receive support from the West regarding military equipment and planes, they can potentially have temporary air superiority.

Zilhen believes Ukrainians could potentially retake the entire Crimea peninsula.
