What is Love and Romance in the 21st Century?
For today’s article, I will discuss love and romance in our modern culture.
What we regard as love and what we all view as romance is, in reality, a product and commodity being forced upon people through the marketisation of our culture.
What we see as love and romance are constantly portrayed in movies, TV shows, romance novels, and anime.
Still, none of this is based on any reality, and when getting what we view what love and romance should be from a fantasy, it negatively impacts relationships.
We have around a 40% divorce rate because people expect love and romance to be filled with passion and drama when entering relationships.
The truth is that within the first six months to 2 years of relationship, it is called the honeymoon phase.
This is when couples can’t keep their hands off each other, spend time together and when the relationship still has a novelty.
The sad truth about human nature is that familiarity breeds discontent.
Once you are overly familiar with somebody, you start disrespecting them because you lose respect due to how deeply you know one another.
When you first get to know somebody, it is exhilarating.
