Why Pro-independence Nationalistic Parties are Anti-English
Over the last 50 years, there has been a growing movement for independence in the United Kingdom’s peripheries.
These are in Scotland and Wales, though Northern Ireland falls into that category.
Though it must be stated for complicated historical and political reasons, Northern Ireland’s Irish independence will not be the topic of this article due to its complexity and history dating back to the 12th century.
For today’s article, I will predominantly focus on the independence parties in Scotland and Wales, including the Scottish National Party and in Wales, the Welsh Independence Party.
These two main political independence parties are anti-English because they oppose the political and cultural settlement of the United Kingdom, which dates back to the 13th century.
When we talk about and come to understand the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, what we are genuinely discussing is greater England.
It is an English political culture, and it is the English Parliament, where members of Parliament sit to make laws that govern how the people of Great Britain and Northern Ireland live.
